Own your stuff.

Own your impact.

Own your business’ impact.

So, what’s the problem?

Most of us have more stuff than we know what to do with. Literally.

We all have those don’t-want-to-throw-out-but-don’t know-what-else-to-do-with-things that are taking up space in our homes and our heads.

The good news is, knowing what to do with it is what The Clever Label is for. It’s about keeping that pile out of landfill and figuring out what to do with it.

After all, each year, Australia generates an estimated 75.6 million tonnes of waste, about 2.88 tonnes per capita, and much of it could find a second life.

This is a big issue and no one person can tackle it alone. We all have a role to play in building a circular economy in which we sustainably use old materials in the creation of new products and avoid simply throwing them out. This includes governments who can create initiatives to make landfill a last resort, organisations that make more environmentally friendly choices about what they make and sell, and of course us, in how we consume.

How can I help?

The easiest approach is to buy less new stuff.

But this is not the whole solution. So what else can we do?

  • Buy from brands committed to making long-lasting products using green manufacturing methods

  • When replacing existing items, pick pre-loved items rather than new

  • Maintain, repair and restore your existing belongings, where possible

  • Sell or donate unwanted items

The Clever Label connects you to businesses and organisations that allow your old belongings to be resold, rehomed, repaired, reused, repurposed, remanufactured or recycled.

Many of us try to do this already, but it’s time-consuming and difficult. Often we end up throwing our hands up and place them on the kerb, hoping someone takes them, or just wait until the next council cleanup.

The Clever Label is here to help you be a more active participant in the circular economy.

The Clever Label is here to support you in the circular economy.

“The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended.”

European Parliament, 24 May 2023

How does
The Clever Label
work?

In a nutshell … it’s an online database that stores useful information about your belongings, including:

  • when and where they were made

  • what materials they’re made of

  • their eco footprint

  • how to care for them

  • who will repair them

  • options for disposing

  • easy rehoming marketplace

Anything that joins all players in the circular economy, really!

Each item has a unique QR code either on a physical or digital label, which stays with it through its lifecycle. This allows you to track the journey from the raw materials used in manufacturing to what the next owner does with it, whether it is reused, rehomed or restored into something new.

Whether you purchase an item with The Clever Label already attached or add one yourself, an added bonus is that it makes it easier to get back to you if it gets lost, a win for you and the planet.

Is this for me?

We all have a part to play and everyone can benefit from The Clever Label! If you consume, manufacture, sell, restore or rehome goods, we have a subscription for you.

There are lots of benefits on offer, based on what you have and how you choose to use The Clever Label. The more people we get on board, the better for all.

If you are involved in a commercial enterprise that plays a part in making, selling, repairing, reusing, repurposing and recycling personal or commercial belongings, then The Clever Label is for you! The point is to bring together both “suppliers” and “customers” of pre-loved goods.

It is also for corporate businesses that need to better “own their stuff”, or for organisations that deal with high volumes of lost property.

We all have a part to play, so join the movement. Welcome!

“In our current economy, we take materials from the Earth, make products from them, and eventually throw them away as waste – the process is linear. In a circular economy, by contrast, we stop waste being produced in the first place.
